Warren Ellis’ Stormwatch (1997)

Issue #0

A preview is a preview.

Issue #1

Cool designs for a time where I feel like superhero designs were some of the most repetitive and at a low. Just a really fun introductory issue. I liked the level of competence displayed and just how everything here meshed, from the sci-fi terrorists to the super powered personalities.

Issue #2

Pretty fun stuff, same as last issue but more. We’re thrown deep in the Stormwatch stuff, hopefully there’s some time to peel back and explain more.

Issue #3

This is just fun, I’m enjoying the level of subterfuge needed for the missions.

Issue #4

Nice little Justice League we have going on. This gives me slight Top Ten vibes. Just with how we get human moments with these weird characters.

Issue #5

So much intrigue. Three different Stormwatches running around. I’m having fun with this.

Issue #6

This is more wholesome than I expected.

Issue #7

This was another fun one. Very much Star Trek vibes. At first I thought Jack was just brainwashed/under an illusion but this seems like it has much more potential.

Issue #8

Wow is this where the Bleed comes from? Very interesting. I don’t really have a deep personal attachment with this lore, but fun to see a change up.

Issue #9

Weird arc, very segmented, not bad though.

Issue #10

Ok it makes more sense that the parallel earth served as more of a warning than anything.

WildC.A.T.s / Aliens

Issue #1

This didn’t feel as earthshaking to me as I think it is.  The Fahrenheit death was unexpected but more of a shock thing, while Winter had a better kind of send off. It was weird for this to feature Stormwatch in an important context while being structurally based around WildC.A.T.s. I think there was a sense of horror and dread that comes with facing the aliens that could have been highlighted better.

Issue #11

Not very mind blowing, but a fun run filled with interesting characters that make you want to engage with the story. Unfortunately there isn’t an abundance of story to fully engage with or to best showcase the characters, but there still were some very fascinating recurrent themes and nuggets to take from this.
