The Sentry (2005)

 Issue #1

I like the Superman question of which lives does he prioritize. The Sentry is a lot and this first issue recognizes and addresses that. It’s nice seeing how much he’s dealing with and how he’s barely holding himself together.

Issue #2

Yeah Lindy sucks. That level of reaction is much more than lingerie. I wonder why Bob chooses to be Bob. I thought the Sentry was him, yes, but also all of him. I do like him having all these real sides to him. Sentry sitting watching over everything gave me Ozymandias vibes. I feel like the Void being so personified is eh. I feel like confronting the darkest parts of yourself should be something truly shaking and not a comic book villain in a trench coat. It doesn’t have the same impact.

Issue #3

This issues have been ending so unceremoniously. This mystery of origin is somewhat interesting, but I hope becomes more of the center of focus throughout the writing. I feel like so far it hasn’t been built up sufficiently despite the attention it has been given.

Issue #4

Ehhh. I mean the Sentry and the Void being the same isn’t new so I’m a little confused. If it’s the fact that the Void has no distinction at all from the Sentry, same body and everything, cool I guess, but that’s still not a crazy revelation to me. I’ll have to see how it develops.

Issue #5

The Void being the one primarily in control is kinda confusing when you look at everything so far. All of Sentry’s actions have leaned good with the Void sporadically coming out to challenge him, to take him down. Sentry being the “separate” entity just feels like a random twist, because what does it really even mean?

Issue #6

I’m really lost on what the reveal is trying to say here. We’ve known that Bob is mentally ill and that his illness has led to several personas. Even the physical manifestation isn’t anything new. Let’s see how things continue.

Issue #7

Does anyone ever believe these types of “oh he’s just a regular guy who’s insane and delusional” type of stories? Maybe it would have worked if it wasn’t shorter than even one full issue.

Issue #8

? Steve’s Super-Soldier Serum also could have worked on anybody. I feel like Sentry’s want to standout and be unique could have been showcased better. It’s there, with him enjoying having the weight of the world at the start, but that thread quickly unraveled until it was picked up again now. It just seems like such a whatever revelation. Very underwhelming comic.
