The Batman’s Grave

Issue #1

I liked the opening with Alfred but the rest of the prose felt very dull.

Issue #2

This issue felt supremely short. Hitch is doing great here, but it’s not like the visual art is conveying so much information that there doesn’t need to be dialogue. Maybe that’s a good thing because the writing has really been…off. Characters’ voices feel unfamiliar, none of the jokes are landing, this has just been a strange book so far.

Issue #3

“Are you using evil computer skills to commit financial crimes against dark capitalism, Master Bruce?” This isn’t how people talk, nor is it charming enough to justify it being a unique way of speaking. Alfred and Bruce keep joking with each other and giving each other these looks, but you can’t feel the emotion behind it. There’s such low chemistry between them.

Issue #4

Art doing a heavy carryjob here. Not invested in this mystery. Maybe the writing and jokes could work for another character but at the end of the day it’s just not Batman.

Issue #5

Fun fight scene at least. Still have a problem with the dialogue and the character writing.

Issue #6

Personal thing but I mostly hate the ultra long batarangs. Finally a writing thing I enjoyed in this issue. I was pretty whatever about Bruce taking on the role of the victim to try to conjure up what happened, but seeing it stick with him where he referred to the victim as “me” instead of “him” when talking to Gordon was a good moment.

Issue #7

Hitch is really doing so much legwork man.

Issue #8

Cool villain design.

Issue #9

Alfred should not be a character where every time I see his face I know I’m gonna want to rip some hair out.

Issue #10

This has been such a weak buildup. A mirror to Batman that we barely get to see or hear from. The focus on this comic only feels slightly related to the idea of Bruce pushing himself too much and Alfred having to bury him early.

Issue #11

Nothing happening is of substance.

Issue #12

Wildly underwhelming.
