DCeased: Dead Planet

 DCeased: Dead Planet #1

Nitpick: why is the box of Chaz’ ashes on the chair and the narration box says John is drinking with his best friend when the next page shows John drinking with the dead heroes. It’s a meaningful enough distinction when Mr. Miracle is literally setting where Chaz’ ashes are. Just an annoying point. Love that the art leveled back up again. Ollie and Dinah are cute as always. Cure reveal is so much less impactful when it was already confirmed in the first series for some reason.

DCeased: Dead Planet #2

A greater evil? Not sure such a thing exists here. I’m really disliking the weird Batman criticisms throughout this comic. Too much on his wrongs not enough emphasis on him being a true hero. It’s weirdly constant.

DCeased: Dead Planet #3

Exactly what I mean with the whole Batman sentiment being weird. It feels more like a meta view than anything (which I think can almost be classified as a Tom Taylor staple.) This series leans into the trope of “things were bad…but we didn’t know they would get WORSE!” narration way too often. It’s already happened multiple times within these three issues.

DCeased: Dead Planet #4

This isn’t TT at his WORST, but maybe most annoying when his writing is basically directly looking the reader in their face and going “look, look!!!” We don’t need the artificial tumblr fandom points man, please stop. Unliving Darkseid? Oh, it’s over. It’s over.

DCeased: Dead Planet #5

Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but Tom Taylor’s Etrigan rhymes are not great. WE GET IT THEY HAVE TRAUMA ENOUGH WITH THE THERAPY PROSE. It’s truly inescapable. A true strength of this comic that’s still real is how many different worlds in the DC Universe that it taps into. And it does it in such a cohesive way. Like, Swamp-Thing is really a key player here and it works.

DCeased: Dead Planet #6

I don’t know if the new DC timeline and comics changed things but I felt the way they correlated Swamp-Thing with being Alec Holland was weird. Nitpick observation that doesn’t matter much, but it’s interesting to me because of how much Tom Taylor seems to be pulling from character’s histories and specific runs, like the many direct references to Tom King’s Mister Miracle. Constantine using every item is peak action figuring, but in the fun way.

DCeased: Dead Planet #7

Cute ending, deserved.
